In this edition of Real Humans: MBA Students, we meet some of the newest members of the larger and more diverse MBA Class of 2022 at Chicago Booth.
Out of 4,909 applicants, 621 matriculated at the Booth School of Business this fall. Thirty percent of the new group are international, representing 56 different countries. Forty-three percent identify as U.S. minorities and 38 percent are women. Veterans comprise eight percent of the latest matriculants.
During their undergraduate years, the Class of 2022 had averaged a 3.6 GPA. Business was the most popular major, at 28 percent. Nearly a quarter had studied economics and 21 percent majored in engineering. Thirteen percent had pursued bachelors degrees in liberal arts and 10 percent in physical sciences. Nineteen percent also hold graduate level degrees. When it came time to take the GMAT, test takers averaged a score of 723. The range of scores was 600 to 780. Seventeen percent of candidates opted for the GRE instead of the GMAT and averaged scores of 163 in Quant and 161 in Verbal.
At the time of starting the program, new Boothies averaged an age of 28 and five years of full-time work experience. A quarter of the class had worked in consulting prior to Booth. Another fifth of the class came from financial services. Eleven percent had worked in tech and 10 percent in non-profit/government during their pre-MBA careers. Eight percent brought experience in private equity/venture capital with them to the class. Five percent came from the healthcare industry and the rest spread out across manufacturing, energy, consumer products and other fields.
