Picture of the Year 2013 R2 Announcement
[edit]Round 2 of Picture of the Year 2013 is open!
[edit]- ⧼Wikibase-terms/Eurohunter⧽: Deutsch, Ελληνικά, English, français, magyar, italiano, македонски, 日本語, русский, svenska
Dear Wikimedians,
Wikimedia Commons is happy to announce that the second round of the 2013 Picture of the Year competition is now open. This year will be the eighth edition of the annual Wikimedia Commons photo competition, which recognizes exceptional contributions by users on Wikimedia Commons. Wikimedia users are invited to vote for their favorite images featured on Commons during the last year (2013) to produce a single Picture of the Year.
Hundreds of images that have been rated Featured Pictures by the international Wikimedia Commons community in the past year were entered in this competition. These images include professional animal and plant shots, breathtaking panoramas and skylines, restorations of historical images, photographs portraying the world's best architecture, impressive human portraits, and so much more.
There are two total rounds of voting. In the first round, you voted for as many images as you liked. The top 30 overall and the most popular image in each category have continued to the final. In the final round, you may vote for just one image to become the Picture of the Year.
Round 2 will end on 7 March 2014. https://commons.wikimedia.org/wiki/Special:MyLanguage/Commons:Picture_of_the_Year/2013/Introduction/en Click here to learn more and vote »]
Thanks,
the Wikimedia Commons Picture of the Year committee

Dear Eurohunter,
The 2013 Picture of the Year competition has ended and we are pleased to announce the results: We shattered participation records this year — more people voted in Picture of the Year 2013 than ever before. In both rounds, 4070 different people voted for their favorite images. Additionally, there were more image candidates (featured pictures) in the contest than ever before (962 images total).
- In the first round, 2852 people voted for all 962 files
- In the second round, 2919 people voted for the 50 finalists (the top 30 overall and top 2 in each category)
We congratulate the winners of the contest and thank them for creating these beautiful images and sharing them as freely licensed content:
- 157 people voted for the winner, an image of a lightbulb with the tungsten filament smoking and burning.
- In second place, 155 people voted for an image of "Sviati Hory" (Holy Mountains) National Park in Donetsk Oblast, Ukraine.
- In third place, 131 people voted for an image of a swallow flying and drinking.

We also sincerely thank to all 4070 voters for participating and we hope you will return for next year's contest in early 2015. We invite you to continue to participate in the Commons community by sharing your work.

the Picture of the Year committee

Map of Formula One drivers by nationality.png
[edit]It has been updated by adding the border between Sudan and South Sudan.
I started with a blank map and filled in all the colors. The new border I just drew in MS Paint.
Commons links
[edit]When you create a category on Commons, would you please add a link to that category from ALL of the Wikipedias to this category? Also, please add links at Commons to the person's article(s) on the Wikipedias. I notice that you added driver categories to images that I took of Ricky Taylor and Michael Pickens. Thank you! Royalbroil 02:06, 25 August 2014 (UTC)
- Usually the drivers have articles only on a few Wikipedias so it usually is not much work. It makes a huge difference to the readers so I hope that you consider my suggestions. There is nothing for you to do when there's a red link, so it is okay to do nothing then. The category probably had never been created. Cheers! Royalbroil 11:01, 25 August 2014 (UTC)
Category:2014 Australian Grand Prix
[edit]First, thank you for your comment in my talk page.

>2014 V8 Supercars at the F1 Australian Grand Prix should be moved to 2014 MSS Security V8 Supercars Challenge, [26]. What you think?
I think it is nice to move the Category:2014 V8 Supercars at the F1 Australian Grand Prix to more appropriate named category. So, I agree you basically. But, it is questionable whetherthe the name "2014 MSS Security V8 Supercars Challenge" is appropriate. Because, I think the event name with the title sponsor name is generally not used in the Wikimedia categories (There are some exceptions: Category:NASCAR Sprint Cup, etc.). For example, the Category:2014 Australian Grand Prix is not named the "2014 Rolex Australian Grand Prix".
I'm not familiar with the V8 Supercars series. According to Wikipedia articles, the names of th V8 Supercars' F1 support races in recent 10 years are as follows:
- 2013 MSS Security V8 Supercars Challenge
- 2012 V8 Supercars Albert Park Challenge
- 2011 Albert Park 400
- 2010 BRC IMPCO V8 Supercars GP Challenge
- 2009 V8 Supercars Manufacturers Challenge
- 2008 Sprint Gas V8 Supercars Manufacturers Challenge
- 2007 (not held?)
- 2006 Panasonic V8 Supercars GP 100
- 2005 Panasonic V8 Supercars GP 100
- ...The "V8 Supercars Showdown" is seems to have been often used before 2005.
So, I'm not sure whether it is appropriate, but I think the "2014 V8 Supercars Challenge" (without "MSS Security") is a safe name for the category.

>I think also photos with Porsche Carrera cars should be included in own categegory round Australian Carrera Cup Championship.
First, the event seems to be called itself the "(Porsche) Carrera Cup Australia"[1], not "Australian Carrera Cup".
Therefore, I think it is better to follow it.
So, I suggest following names for the category:
- 2014 Porsche Carrera Cup Australia Albert Park
- I prefer this to keep consistency with the Porsche Carrera Cup GB events' categories.
- 2014 Porsche Carrera Cup Australia Melbourne round
- This is also good.
- 2014 Australian Carrera Cup Albert Park
- 2014 Australian Carrera Cup Melbourne round
- To keep consistency with the Category:Australian Carrera Cup Championship, these are also nice.
For your referece about each Porsche's Cup events naming in Wikimedia and Wikipedia:
- Category:2008 Porsche Carrera Cup GB Donington Park
- Category:2008 Porsche Carrera Cup GB Oulton Park
- Category:2011 Porsche Supercup Monza round
- en:Porsche Carrera Cup Australia Championship
- en:2014 Australian Carrera Cup Championship

>I see also some photos with other racing cars, what is this? Parade or other series?
They seems to be other support races (touring car race) images.
If there are too many support race images, I think it is better to create the Category:2014 Australian Grand Prix support races and move the category(s) and images to it.
About drivers parade, the Category:Formula One drivers parades may be your reference.

Basshunter
[edit]Do you mean "this" Basshunter? Then I've got no pictures. I don't know when he's in Germany in my homearea (Nuremberg). If he's here, I can try to get an accreditation. --2eight (talk) 14:26, 14 December 2014 (UTC)
- When he comes to Nuremberg, I've got no costs, because it's my hometown. But it depends on the Management to become an accreditation to make some good photos. No accreditation, no photos ;-) --2eight (talk) 21:43, 14 December 2014 (UTC)
Re:Names
[edit]- Christian d’Auvergne: I was looking at en:1928 24 Hours of Le Mans where he is spelled as Christian Dauvergne, but yes;
- Maurice Béquet: probably, but it is hard to say as there are not many photographs of him, maybe someone else can confirm...;
- Prince de Cystria: [2][3];
- Mercanti: no idea.--Sporti (talk) 11:58, 18 April 2015 (UTC)

Categorisation
[edit]Hi. Sorry, but I reverted your last edits on the pages for the logos I uploaded. I did so because you added the category that belongs to the video game itself, not the logo. For example Category:Final_Fantasy_VII should go in the Category:1997 video games, but not its logos or the category pages used to organized the logos, so that the hierarchic principle is properly followed. Have a good day! Nacaru (talk) 23:07, 13 July 2022 (UTC)
