Academics

Faculty

Judge employs over 80 faculty members. Along with their instructional duties, these scholars and practitioners help staff the school’s 19 research centers and contribute to numerous other research endeavors across the university.

Curriculum

The Judge MBA curriculum consists of a mix of required core courses, electives, and consulting projects. To complement these elements, the school also offers concentrations, a distinguished speaker series and further activities in the summer.

The academic year at Judge is split into four terms, with breaks in between each. Following orientation, students enroll in eight required core courses covering foundational business topics such as accounting, finance, management and organizational behavior. During this term, referred to as Michaelmas Term, students also get involved in a Cambridge Venture Project, through which they conduct consulting assignments for local entrepreneurs. Michaelmas courses end in December and are followed by a winter break. The second term, called Lent Term, runs from January to March during which students complete an additional five core courses and the Global Consulting Project. For a Global Consulting Project, self-selected teams of students carry out consulting projects for international businesses and organizations. Students also take three elective courses, which they choose from a menu of nearly 50 options.

During their third term, which is dubbed Easter Term and runs from April to June, Judge students complete four core courses and choose three elective courses. In addition, each student selects a concentration: Culture, Arts and Media Management; Digital Transformation; Energy & Environment; Entrepreneurship; Finance; Health Strategies; Marketing; Social Innovation; or Strategy. Concentrations are fulfilled by attending Coach Nights—which feature offerings such as site visits and guest speakers—throughout the term and by completing a two-week Capstone Project at the end of the term.

During the final term, called Summer Term 4, from June to September, students can conclude their work at Judge by completing an individual project, submitting a dissertation or case, or via work placement. These Summer Activities options vary from year to year.

Other MBA Degree Options

In addition to its 12-month full-time MBA program, Judge offers a 20-month Executive MBA option. Due to the condensed time period of the full-time program, the school does not offer dual degree options.

Campus Life

Clubs, Conferences & Competitions

Judge’s main social group is the Cambridge Business School Club, which supports several special interest groups for MBA students. Students are also encouraged to get involved with the larger Cambridge community by joining one of the University’s nearly 400 student social and recreational sports groups, which include everything from cultural clubs like the CU India Society to the more esoteric CU Jugglers’ Association. Students have further opportunities to get to know their classmates—as well as graduate students pursuing different degrees—through the university’s 31 colleges. Colleges offer Judge students a diverse community of Cambridge students, in addition to college-specific housing, dining and sports affiliations.

Among the events that Judge students help organize is the Cambridge University Energy Network Conference, which brings together industry leaders, policy makers, academic researchers and students for a day of discussion about the factors contributing to climate change. Students can also participate in a number of other conferences throughout the year, such as the Africa Business Conference. In addition, the Entrepreneurship Centre hosts annual events, including pitch competitions.

Campus Spaces

The Cambridge Judge School of Business is located on the south end of the Cambridge University campus. It was originally the Addenbrooke Hospital, which was built in the mid-18th century. The hospital ultimately relocated, leaving its prior location available for the academic community. In 1991 the University refurbished and expanded the original hospital building. The building now houses Judge’s classrooms, study rooms, library, and assorted research centers, such as the Centre for Business Research and the Center for International Human Resource Management.

Cambridge University’s colleges do their best to provide housing for their members, but even if students choose to live off-campus, they are still assigned a college community.

MBA Careers

Career Services

Judge’s Career Services Office offers MBA students career development support from the start of their time at the school. Resources available to Judge students include self-assessment tools, a series of skill developing workshops, and individual feedback sessions with industry experts and Career Development Managers. The office’s Career Development Programme, which lasts one week over the first and second terms, further prepares students for their job searches through tailored assessment exercises and the opportunity to create a career action plan. Due to the MBA program’s shorter length, on-campus employer presentations and recruiting begin as early as October and run through June.

Career Statistics

The following career statistics cover the Cambridge Judge MBA Class of 2022/2023. Judge and the larger University of Cambridge offer a number of scholarships for students in need of financial assistance in order to fund their degree. Students hoping for financial support are encouraged to apply early, as many of the scholarship deadlines are in October. Scholarships directly tied to Judge are determined on a range of factors, from academic excellence and cultural background to gender and previous work sector. Judge automatically considers all admitted students for scholarships offered through the schools; however, students applying for University-wide scholarships must apply separately to the MBA program and for the specific scholarships. In addition, the school notes that there are a variety of external scholarships available to applicants. For accepted students who need further financial support, Judge offers a loan option with a local branch of a global bank. The school also provides information about country-specific loan opportunities.
