Faculty

Carey employs 110 faculty members across 10 departments. These faculty members regularly contribute to both scholarly and practitioner-oriented journals, and host Research Seminar Series.

Curriculum

The two-year MBA at the Carey Business School is broken down into semesters. Students must complete 54 credits to graduate; no course waivers are available, but they do accept transfer credits. The curriculum is conveyed in a mix of classroom learning, experiential learning and co-curricular experiences.

First-year students begin the school year with Foundations Week, which includes a behavioral science bootcamp, an introduction to experiential learning and various networking opportunities. The curriculum includes 18 core/foundation courses, then students may customize their elective choices.  While students may take any mix of electives, Carey suggests groups of electives based on potential career expertise, including finance, marketing, consulting, operations management, leading organizations, and entrepreneurship.

MBA students at Carey also have the option to pursue one of two pathways: Analytics, Leadership & Innovation, or Health, Technology & Innovation (HTI). The analytics pathway involves taking 6 credits of courses designed for it; course highlights include Foundations of Business Analytics and Data Science: Artificial Intelligence. Those who choose the HTI pathway can expect to take five courses tailored to the pathway; course highlights include Design Lab and Commercializing Discovery.

During the second year, MBA students partake in the Innovation Field Project. Students work in teams, along with a faculty advisor, to solve a complex business challenge over the course of 8 weeks.  Five weeks are spent in the classroom, meeting with faculty advisors and working with the client to review the project scope, set goals, conduct research, and collect data. The project wraps up with three weeks on-site, conducting research and applying solutions.

Other experiential learning options include a global immersion, leadership development expeditions (to Norway or Belize), end-to-end health breakthroughs, a big data consulting project, discovery to market and Citylab.
