Why did you make the decision to attend business school? Why now?
I reached a point in my career where I recognized the need to upskill myself to create new opportunities, which is why I decided to attend business school now. I also wanted to fast-track my career and enhance my skill set. I took a pre-MBA course prior to deciding, which helped me get a sense if an MBA was something for me – which it definitely was! I definitely recommend that if you are unsure if an MBA is something for you – it made me feel more secure in my decision.
Why did you choose Alliance Manchester? What factors figured most prominently into your decision of where to attend?
I chose Alliance Manchester because it is a renowned school with an MBA curriculum that resonates with my professional goals and learning style. The three consultancy projects, which offer real-life experience, were the most persuasive aspect of the program for me, along with the benefit of small class sizes.
What do you think is your most valuable or differentiating contribution to the Manchester AMBS Class of 2025?
Besides the fact that I am the only Scandinavian, my most differentiating contribution is my experience and attitude. My most valuable contribution to the Class of 2025 at AMBS is probably the advanced critical thinking skills I developed during my days in journalism. I’m someone who challenges peers and isn’t afraid to ask difficult questions. Moreover, I thrive on challenging discussions and communicating solutions effectively, which are skills I plan to share and develop further with my classmates.
Tell us a fun fact about yourself that didn’t get included on your application:
A fun fact about myself is that I have lived and studied in five different countries, starting from when I was 16 years old. Meeting people from diverse cultures and backgrounds is something I find extremely motivational and has definitely changed my worldview over the years.
Post-MBA career interests:
I’m trying to keep an open mind by not narrowing my interest down too early. That being said, I am currently most interested in strategy consulting.
Advice for Current Prospective Applicants:
–What is one thing you would absolutely do again as part of your application process?
- Visit the school to meet with the MBA team and current students; it’s essential for getting a real feel of the program and making an informed decision. I even attended one of the classes, and that gave me a great preview of what I could expect from joining the program.
- Connect with current students and alumni to understand their experiences and the program’s impact on their careers. That will also allow you to assess how well the school aligns with your preferences by learning from those who’ve already gone through the program.
- Apply as early as possible!
–What is one thing you would change or do differently?
Maybe not stress so much about the application process. Stress doesn’t change the outcome and the application process is a learning experience in itself. It is all about finding the right fit for yourself and your goals.
–What is one part you would have skipped if you could—and what helped you get through it?
I can’t really think of anything, school applications are what they are and there’s no getting around that. My dad helped me map and shortlist different possible MBA programs around the world. He had a whole Excel sheet with schools’ requirements and deadlines, which was extremely helpful for me. There are many different MBA opportunities, so make sure you do your research before you spend a lot of time applying to different ones.
What is your initial impression of the Manchester AMBS students/culture/community?
As for my initial impression of Alliance Manchester’s students, culture, and community, I am really enjoying the engaging discussions in the classroom and the variety of perspectives that are offered.
What is one thing you have learned about Alliance Manchester that has surprised you?
The staff’s deep investment in student success has been a delightful surprise, with their attentive and personalized approach to student well-being standing out.
What is one thing you are most anxious about in your first year?
Prioritize my time. As an MBA student, you are extremely busy as there are many academic deadlines, social activities, societies to join etc… But you only have 24 hours in a day, so you need to manage your time well and constantly prioritize.
What is one thing you are most excited about in your first year?
In my first year, I am most excited about the opportunity to broaden my skill sets and grow both professionally and personally. The impressive lectures and approachable teachers who encourage us to ask questions contribute to a positive and collaborative learning environment.
